USANA – Q3 Revenue Up 10.5% to $191.9 million

USANA Health Sciences, Inc. (NYSE: USNA) today announced financial results for its fiscal third quarter ended September 27, 2014. The Company also provided updated net sales and earnings guidance for 2014.
Financial Performance:
For the third quarter of 2014, net sales increased by 10.5% to $191.9 million, compared with $173.7 million in the prior-year period. The increase in net sales was driven by overall Associate growth of 18.8%, which was generated by the Companys Asia Pacific region.
Net earnings for the third quarter increased by 16.4% to $19.5 million, compared with $16.8 million during the prior-year period. This increase was driven by higher net sales and lower relative Associate Incentives expense. On a relative basis, Associate Incentives expense declined due to a $4.5 million one-time payout resulting from the pricing and compensation plan initiatives implemented by the Company in the third quarter of 2013. Earnings per share for the quarter increased by 26.7% to $1.47, compared with $1.16 in the third quarter of the prior year.
This increase in earnings per share was attributable to higher net earnings and a lower number of diluted shares outstanding due to the Companys share repurchases during 2014. Weighted average diluted shares outstanding were 13.3 million as of the end of the third quarter of 2014, compared with 14.4 million in the prior-year period.
Top and bottom line results for the third quarter benefitted from the recognition of $3.1 million of deferred revenue in Hong Kong. Earnings per share for the quarter benefitted by $0.11 as a result of this revenue recognition.
During the quarter, the Company repurchased approximately 1.1 million shares under its authorized repurchase program for a total investment of $76.6 million. Additionally, as of October 24, 2014, the Company has subsequently invested $13.2 million to repurchase approximately 172,000 shares pursuant to a Rule 10b5-1 plan. As of October 24, 2014, there were $61.2 million remaining under the current share repurchase authorization. The Company ended the third quarter with approximately $87.7 million in cash and cash equivalents and $10 million on its revolving line of credit.
USANA generated solid operating results in the third quarter, which included double-digit sales, earnings and customer growth, said Kevin Guest, USANAs President. We also continued to see impressive growth in world-wide unit volume, Auto Order sales and check earners. This growth was driven by the pricing and compensation plan enhancements we made a year ago and our management teams continued promotion of those enhancements during 2014. While we are pleased with the growth in each of these metrics, customer growth continues to be our highest priority, as we seek to improve the overall health and nutrition of individuals and families around the world.
Regional Results
Net sales in the Asia Pacific region increased by 21.3% to $130.2 million, compared with $107.4 million for the third quarter of the prior year, and increased 4.5% sequentially. The year-over-year increase was due to 29.2% sales growth in the Greater China region and 10.6% sales growth in the Southeast Asia Pacific region.
Sales growth in Greater China was driven by double-digit sales and customer growth in Mainland China, while sales growth in Southeast Asia Pacific resulted from strong sales and customer growth in Australia/New Zealand, the Philippines and Thailand. The number of active Associates in the Asia Pacific region increased by 28.2% year-over-year, due primarily to double-digit Associate growth in the Greater China and Southeast Asia Pacific regions.
Net sales in the Americas/Europe region declined 6.9% to $61.7 million, due primarily to a sales decline in the U.S., which was partially offset by net sales growth in other markets in the region. The number of active Associates in this region declined slightly compared to the prior-year period.

Isagenix Man Loses Close To 300 Pounds

People respond in big ways when they hear the number 276, especially when it’s associated with weight loss.
Michael Thorn, 43, is one of those rare individuals who can say they have lost more than half their body weight.
Two years ago, Thorn weighed 505 pounds.
Looking back, he said faith, a plan and accountability to a coach saved his life and made him the person he is today.
“A lot of times, people that are 505 pounds, they think that it is impossible,” Thorn said. “I am proof that it can happen.”
Thorn is a celebrity in the Isagenix community.
He was the winner in the weight loss solution category of the company’s IsaBody Challenge a year ago and was invited to be on stage at a national convention in Las Vegas, Nevada where he showed off his former belt and clothing.
While on stage, Thorn talks about losing more than 100 pounds in 11 weeks.
Thorn said the products and the close-knit support community of those who market and sell them made the difference in his life.
“I was supposed to die in December of 2012 anyway,” Thorn said, pointing to the 12 medications he needed at the time. He also had struggled with prostrate cancer.
He said after a life of giving up on so many diets, when he found something that worked and people who were willing to help, he was ready to fight for his life.
And he said starting on the program was a spiritual experience.
“It was like a light went off above his head,” Thorn said of meeting his coach, Greg Duran, two years ago.
Duran, who was 18 at the time, is a young body builder who Thorn said was willing to take him on for many hours of workouts by his side.
And Thorn contrasts his several hours of successful workouts today to that first day when he walked into Planet Fitness at Five Points weighing 505 pounds.
“Just walking in the door was a job,” he said, noting the two rest breaks he needed to just get inside. “But Gary stood by me the whole time.” 
Today, Thorn said the only medication he needs is Ibuprofen and an occasional sleeping pill.
The program involves a regimented diet, meal replacements made of calculated protein and vitamins and drinking gallons of water.
“When I was leaning down, I was drinking a gallon and a half to two gallons of water a day,” Thorn said. “It makes sense to do that. Your body is 60 percent to 80 percent of water anyway. You want to flush all the garbage out.”
Thorn has maintained his weight for the last year and now looks forward to a skin graft surgery to help him look his very best. He said once skin has stretched so far, a person can’t lose the extra skin on his or her own.
“It will be nice to be able to see the muscle I’ve worked for,” he said.
Thorn offered some advice to those who want to take control of their weight like he has.
“Believe in yourself,” he said. “Believe in God, or your higher power. Believe that it will happen.”
He said his trainer helped him with not only his body but also with his mind and spirit along the way.
Now as a results trainer with the Isagenix company, Thorn is helping others to lose weight too. 
“The more people that know, the more I can help,” he said. “We call it the ripple effect.”
Claudia Cook, manager of the Planet Fitness where Thorn works out, said having him in the gym gives others motivation.
“It’s been inspirational to have him in here, to have people watch him,” she said. “They see his struggles and they see that he’s normal. … It’s been nice to be able to see him change not only his body but  his attitude.”
Rich Reardon of Roy is one who has been inspired by Thorn in his own weight loss.
The 48-year-old lost 105 pounds in five months.
Reardon also found he needed a lot fewer medications as a result of his weight loss.
“Any time you make your body healthier, you are going to go away from things were were taking,”
 Reardon said.
“The key is just eating right. Most people never eat right. They don’t have time,” he said.
But Reardon said making time became a priority for him and the results are a life he never thought he could have.

Warren Buffett’s financial assistant, Tracy Britt Cool has been appointed as chief executive officer of The Pampered Chef, a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (NYSE:BRK.A) (NYSE:BRK.B). Ms. Cool will start in her new role effective November 1, 2014.

“I couldn’t think of a better leadership duo at the helm of The Pampered Chef.With Tracy’s experience helping Berkshire companies reach their full potential and Doris’ passion for both The Pampered Chef’s consultants and products, I see great things in the company’s future,” said Mr. Buffett in a statement.
Cool has been working as financial assistant to Mr. Buffett at Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (NYSE:BRK.A) (NYSE:BRK.B) for five years. Some of her responsibilities at the conglomerate include conductinginvestment research, analyzing acquisition opportunities and providing advice to subsidiaries in different industries.
According to Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (NYSE:BRK.A) (NYSE:BRK.B), Ms. Cool will continue to serve as chairman of Benjamin Moore, Larsom-Juhl and Oriental Trading Company. She will also continue to serve on the board of H.J. Heinz Company.
Cool served as advisor to The Pampered Chef founder
The Pampered Chef is the largest direct seller of high-quality kitchen tools in the United States. The company was established by its chairman Christopher Doris, who served as interim CEO since December 2013. Prior to her appointment, Cool served as advisor to Mr. Doris.
According to Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (NYSE:BRK.A) (NYSE:BRK.B), Ms. Cool will continue to work closely with Doris. Both executives will report directly to Buffett.

Herbalife To Settle Class Action Lawsuit, Denies Any Liability

On October 31, 2014, global nutrition company, Herbalife Ltd. (NYSE:HLF) entered into a settlement agreement that, if approved by the court, will resolve a class action lawsuit against the company.
The company has been aggressively defending itself against the plaintiffs' allegations set forth in Bostick v. Herbalife ever since the lawsuit was filed in 2013. Yet, the potential cost, as well as the distraction, disruption and burden of prolonged litigation on the company and its management team, led the company to decide that the terms set forth in the settlement agreement provided the best path for moving forward.
The company notes that the settlement does not contain an admission of liability or wrongdoing and still asserts that the suit has no merit. Additionally, the company notes that the plaintiffs' counsel acknowledge that a finder of fact could reasonably conclude there is substantial demand for Herbalife product and Herbalife is not in violation of the law.
Mark Friedman, general counsel of Herbalife, stated:

Avon Reports 3rd Quarter Financial Results, Profit Of $91.4 Million

Avon Products Inc. (AVP) on Thursday reported third-quarter profit of $91.4 million.
On a per-share basis, the New York, New York-based company said it had profit of 21 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs and restructuring costs, were 23 cents per share.
The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 16 cents per share.
The direct seller of cosmetics posted revenue of $2.14 billion in the period, falling short of Street forecasts. Analysts expected $2.15 billion, according to Zacks.
Avon shares have declined 36 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has climbed 7 percent. The stock has declined 51 percent in the last 12 months.

Nu Skin Q3 Revenue Down 30% To $638 Million

Nu Skin Enterprises, Inc. (NYSE: NUS) today announced third-quarter results with revenue of $638.8 million, the top end of the company's prior guidance and a 30 percent decline from the prior-year period.
Comparable revenue in the third quarter of 2013 included $203 million in sales from the company's limited-time introduction of its ageLOC® TR90® weight management system.
Revenue for the third quarter of 2014 was negatively impacted three percent by foreign currency fluctuations. Earnings per share for the quarter were $1.12, ahead of expectations, versus $1.80 in the prior-year period.
 
"We made significant progress during the third quarter," said Truman Hunt, president and chief executive officer.
"We believe our business in China is stabilizing as we are seeing improving trends in the early sales leader pipeline, we strengthened our capital structure and balance sheet flexibility, we are making good progress in our product development efforts, and we generated positive operating cash flow.
We have also seen continued enthusiasm among our sales force at recent sales leader conventions in our South Asia/Pacific, Greater China and Americas regions.
"Our sales results are heavily impacted by our product launch schedule. Last year's second-half launch, which generated approximately $550 million in sales, provides a difficult year-over-year comparison. However, excluding product launch sales, the core business has stabilized and is trending positively sequentially.
The dynamics of the core business reinforce our confidence in the long-term prospects for Nu Skin and our ability to renew local-currency growth in 2015."
Regional Results
Greater China. In Greater China, third-quarter revenue declined 50 percent to $226.7 million when compared to the prior-year period, which included $153.6 million of limited-time offer (LTO) sales, compared to $59.3 million of LTO sales in the third quarter of 2014. The region's results were not impacted by foreign currency fluctuations.
The sales leader count in the region declined 57 percent, while the number of actives declined 43 percent compared to the prior-year period. This decline is primarily a result of the company's temporary, self-imposed restriction on sales leader recruitment earlier this year. Results for the region reflect third-quarter sales in Mainland China down 1 percent versus the second quarter of 2014.
North Asia. Third-quarter revenue in North Asia increased 2 percent to $205.5 million, compared to $202.4 million for the same period in 2013. The region's results were positively impacted 2 percent by foreign currency fluctuations. South Korea generated local-currency revenue growth of 6 percent while Japan local-currency revenue declined 9 percent. The number of sales leaders in the region declined 5 percent and the number of actives declined 7 percent.
South Asia/Pacific. Revenue in South Asia/Pacific was $88.9 million, a 30 percent decline compared to the prior-year period, which included $45.7 million in LTO sales. The region's results were negatively impacted 1 percent by foreign currency fluctuations. The region's third-quarter sales leaders and actives declined 15 and 3 percent, respectively, compared to the same period in 2013.
Americas. Currency fluctuations in the Americas region offset 19 percent local-currency growth, with reported revenue in the Americas declining 10 percent to $76.7 million, compared to $84.8 million in the prior-year period. The currency impact was primarily driven by the devaluation of currency in Venezuela. The number of sales leaders in the region declined 3 percent and the number of actives improved 4 percent compared to the prior-year period.
EMEA. Revenue in the EMEA region was $40.9 million, an 8 percent decline from the prior-year period. The region's results were negatively impacted 1 percent by foreign currency fluctuations. Sales leaders declined 6 percent, and actives declined 7 percent, compared to the prior-year period.

New 5 Year Agreement For Lyoness Open

The Lyoness Open will feature in The Race to Dubai until at least 2019 following a new five year agreement between The European Tour, title sponsor Lyoness and promoter Golf Open Event gmbh.
Next year marks the Austrian tournament’s tenth consecutive staging, having also previously been played each year between 1990 and 1996 when champions included Ryder Cup stars Bernhard Langer, Ronan Rafferty and Paul McGinley. 
As part of the new agreement, the prize fund for the 2015 tournament will be increased by 50 per cent, from €1,000,000 to €1,500,000. The tournament will return to Diamond Country Club, in Atzenbrugg, the host venue since 2010, which is a European Tour Destination as part of The European Tour’s Properties Network, from June 11-14, 2015.
This year, Sweden’s Mikael Lundberg denied home favourite and 2012 champion Bernd Wiesberger a second victory in three years, holing a 40ft birdie putt on the first play-off hole to claim the title. 
Keith Waters, The European Tour’s Chief Operating Officer and Director of International Policy, said: “Since returning the our International Schedule in 2006, the Lyoness Open has developed into an excellent tournament, and it has been an important and valued fixture on our Race to Dubai. 
“We are therefore delighted that Lyoness and Golf Open Event gmbh have committed to staging the tournament for a further five years, and have significantly increased the prize money, which will help grow the event even further. Our thanks goes to Lyoness for their continued support of golf and The European Tour, while we are also grateful to Christian Guzy, the owner of Diamond Country Club, for his commitment to developing the course and facilities into a venue the Tour is extremely proud of.” 
Wiesberger, who was at the press conference to announce the new agreement, said: "It's great that Austria and the Lyoness Open will be part of the European Tour calendar for the next five years. This is a great motivation not only for me, but for all the Austrian players who work so hard. 
"It is also important that Austria continues to remain a focus in the golf world, as the tournament also has a positive effect for our country as a golfing tourist destination."
Alongside Lundberg and Wiesberger, the top five at this year’s Lyoness Open also included Dutchman Joost Luiten, the 2013 champion, Paraguay’s Fabrizio Zanotti, who claimed his maiden European Tour title three weeks later at the BMW International Open, and Spaniard Miguel Angel Jiménez, who now resides in Vienna with his Austrian wife Susanne.

Avon Products’ Rating Cut To Junk By S&P

Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services on Monday cut beauty products direct seller Avon Products Inc. corporate rating to junk, citing the company’s slower-than-expected progress to improve business and weak results, particularly in the U.S. and Brazil.
“Some of the company’s issues are deeper than we anticipated,” S&P said, cutting Avon’s corporate rating to double-B-plus, one notch below investment grade. While the company has a good geographic diversity, the rating agency said, “it will take time to re-engage its active representatives and rebuild sales growth.”
S&P, however, kept the company’s outlook at stable, signaling an expected improvement.
Founded in 1886 by David H. McConnell, a traveling book salesman, Avon became known for a growing sales force of women—the Avon Ladies—and its trademark “Avon calling!” But the New York-based company has been struggling to grow sales and attract and retain sales representatives.
Avon, which in July reported another quarter of disappointing sales and lower profits but said its U.K. market had reported the first quarter of sales growth since 2010, is the midst of a multiyear restructuring plan that the company is hoping will result in $400 million in savings.
