Nu Skin Enterprises, Inc. (NYSE:NUS) recently announced it has received approval from China'sMinistry of Commerce for the company to commence direct selling activities in Shaoxing City in Zhejiang Province.
Nu Skin is now licensed in 30 cities in 19 provinces and municipalities. The licensing process included a review of the company's operations.
According to the Shaoxing City government, the city's population was more than 6 million in 2013.

Herbalife Unveils Massive Public Relations Blitz In Response To Critics

LA Times reports: Amid relentless attacks on its business model, Los Angeles nutritional products company Herbalife Ltd. is firing back at its critics with its first Southern California television advertisements in more than a decade.
With a big rally in downtown Los Angeles, the company kicked off a massive public relations campaign that portrays its products as effective in helping users lose weight and stay fit.
Herbalife has traditionally shied away from expensive television advertising, instead relying on its independent salespeople to spread the word about its weight-loss and nutrition products through personal contacts. It also promotes the company through a variety of sponsorships, including the Los Angeles Galaxy soccer team.
But the company decided to change its strategy as activist investor Bill Ackman continued his two-year, high-profile attack on the company's business practices. 
Ackman has contended that Herbalife operates a pyramid scheme that victimizes its predominantly poor and minority independent salespeople. He said he shorted Herbalife's stock by more than $1 billion, betting that its value would fall when regulators took action.
The company has denied those allegations, and it's now taking the offensive with a marketing campaign that will air on cable and network television, radio and the Internet and in newspapers.
The television ads were scheduled to begin airing in Los Angeles and Miami on Wednesday, the same day that hundreds of Herbalife distributors rallied in downtown Los Angeles in support of the company.
"This is all part of a larger effort on our part to make sure people know what we're about and what we mean to the community," said Alan Hoffman, executive vice president of global corporate affairs for Herbalife.
The ads feature lean, smiling people who say they lost weight and transformed their lives using Herbalife products. The company's top-selling product is Formula 1, a powder used to make meal-replacement shakes.
Ackman did not respond to a request for comment. His criticism prompted the Federal Trade Commission last year to open an investigation, which is ongoing.
Herbalife's stock has endured wild swings since Ackman's attack began, falling more than 50% last year after gaining value in 2013. The stock gained 14 cents, or 0.3%, to $41.39 in Wednesday trading.
At the company rally at Grand Park in downtown L.A., many Herbalife distributors wore green shirts that read, "I am Herbalife," and carried signs supporting the company.
Among them were Mark and Jill Addy, a Playa Vista couple who said they have been selling — and using — Herbalife products for about 10 years. They said they welcomed the company's new marketing push.
"Any time we can hear from people who have results on the products, that's a good thing," Mark Addy said. "I love having the general public see what I see on a weekly basis."
Marketing experts said the campaign sounds effective and overdue.
Tim Calkins, a Northwestern University marketing professor and author of "Defending Your Brand, How Smart Companies Use Defensive Strategy to Deal with Competitive Attacks," said Herbalife's strategy makes sense.
"There's no question that perceptions of Herbalife have been shaped by all of the attacks from Ackman and others; over time, that really has an impact on the brand," Calkins said. "Herbalife has to be aggressive about putting forth a different story about the company. It's surprising it has taken this long to put forward a campaign."
Hoffman declined to say how much money the company is spending on the new marketing blitz.
It probably will be money well spent, said Ball State University advertising professor Dominic Caristi. "The effect of a television ad campaign would be to reinforce to all these groups — Wall Street investors, the distributors, the potential buyers — that this is viable company."

Does Avon And Mary Kay Test On Animals?

According to Snopes.com – the answer isn't a clear yes or no: 
Animal Testing Resumes For Avon, Mary Kay, And Estee Lauder. Someone has posted this on Facebook and some are claiming it isn't true. Can you verify this?
  
Origins:   In March 2015, a rumor claiming that cosmetic companies Avon, Mary Kay, and Estee Lauder had resumed animal testing started circulating again on social media sites, stemming from an article published by the Dog Files web site in 2012:
Animal testing for cosmetics is a hot topic in the beauty industry, with most consumers and many companies deciding to avoid products made with animal testing. After more than two decades following a no testing on animals policy, cosmetics giants Avon, Mary Kay, and Estee Lauder have resumed the practice without letting consumers know. 
According to a press release from Rush PR, the news was broken after animal rights organization PETA removed the companies from their cruelty-free list after discovering that they had returned to using testing on animals for their products. The three companies began the tests again in order to satisfy regulations from the Chinese government so they could sell their products in China. However, PETA contends that there are alternative testing methods that are just as effective and widely used in the US.
While it's true that PETA includes Avon, Mary Kay, and Estee Lauder on its "companies that do test on animals" list, that categorization is not completely accurate. Avon, Mary Kay, and Estee Lauder do not use animal testing for the majority of their products, but they do make exceptions in countries where local laws mandate additional safety testing on animals be performed:
In June 1989 Avon announced a permanent end to animal testing of our products, including testing done in outside laboratories. Avon was the first major cosmetic company in the world to end animal testing. For more than 20 years Avon has independently substantiated the safety of its products without animal testing. 
Avon does not conduct nor request animal testing in order to substantiate the safety or efficacy of any of its products or raw ingredients. Our approach to safety evaluation utilizes data from computational modeling, in vitro (test tube/cell culture) evaluation and clinical tests on human volunteers, as well as utilization of pre-existing data. 
Some products may be required by law in a few countries to undergo additional safety testing, including animal testing. In these instances, Avon will first attempt to persuade the requesting authority to accept non-animal test data.

Similar statements can be found on web sites for Estee Lauder and Mary Kay, as well as clarification on why these companies have chosen to continue selling their products in countries that require animal testing:
What does "except where required by law" mean? 
Some scientific or regulatory authorities may still conduct or require animal testing by law of cosmetic products or ingredients to demonstrate safety. For example, before we are able to import any of our products into China, the Chinese government requires all importers of cosmetics, including us, to pay for animal testing that is conducted by a government-mandated laboratory in China. 
Can't you choose not to sell your products in these countries? 
As a global company, we are committed to providing our products and services to our consumers where they live, and we must comply with all legal requirements in the countries where we do business.
It should also be noted that the laws requiring animal testing in countries such as Brazil and China have changed since PETA decided to boot Mary Kay, Avon, and Estee Lauder from its "companies that do not test on animals" list. For instance, in January 2014 Governor Geraldo Alckmin signed a bill that prohibited cosmetics testing on animals in Sao Paulo, Brazil. China has also decided to lift the animal testing  requirement on ordinary cosmetics produced and sold in that country. 
Unfortunately, animal testing is still required in several locations around the world. Companies such as Avon, Mary Kay, and Estee Lauder continue to sell their products to these places. It is not wholly accurate to say, however, that these companies have "resumed animal testing."

Global conglomerate, the QI Group Hong Kong  was among the 20 shortlisted winners of the HR Asia Best Companies to Work for in Asia 2015. Award ceremony was held in Hong Kong recently.
The awards, organised by HR Trade Journal; Asia’s Most Authoritative Publication for HR Professionals, saw 137 companies competing under the boards’ stringent selection criteria. Winners alongside QI Group were Hong Kong Offices of Microsoft, Yahoo!, Kimberly-Clark and, British American Tobacco Asia-Pacific Region.

Since embarking on the project last year, HR Asia has discovered that some of these companies – both local and international – have workplace practices that are world class,” said William Ng, group editor-in-chief of Business Media International, the publishers of HR Asia.
As part of the judging parameter of the Awards, QI Group nominated 20 percent of their workforce, guided by an Employee Selection Guide to take the HR Asia Employee Input Survey. In total, 45 employees were surveyed to determine their motivation, emotional engagement and advocacy of their respective employers.

About ACN:
Founded in 1993, ACN was the vision of four entrepreneurs – Greg Provenzano, Robert Stevanovski, Tony Cupisz and Mike Cupisz. These Co-Founders had countless years of direct sales experience between them, but were dissatisfied with other companies and job opportunities they had encountered. So with a yellow legal pad in front of them, they formulated a business plan. From that initial paper, a business idea was born that would focus on offering services people need and use every day… services that wouldn’t require anyone to change their buying habits or purchase products they didn’t need or couldn’t afford.
ACN began as a reseller of long distance services in the U.S., but over time has grown to offer all the essential services customers in 24 countries use on a daily basis. ACN is the world’s largest direct seller of telecommunications, energy and essential services for home and business, but more importantly, they’ve provided a vehicle for countless individuals to change their lives. ACN is passionate about giving back to the community as well, and in 2011 the nonprofit organization ACN Global Reach Charities was founded to expand and enhance their charitable efforts.
With that single column on a legal pad, the ACN Co-Founders drew a proverbial line that would set the bar for what ACN would become – and remain long into the future. And those are the same principles that drive the company today, over two decades later.

It was just three months ago when TLC announced the impact and success that Executive Ambassadors Kenny & Chante Lloyd, Gregg & Lenika Scott, and Erwin & Twiler Portis brought to the U.S. market. At that time, these very dedicated IBO’s were extremely busy training their team members in order to duplicate their success. As a result, just one week ago, TLC announced William & Denise Lee as reaching the rank of Ambassadors.

What we have seen in the past 16 months is kind of like a tsunami. Kenny & Chante Lloyd, Gregg & Lenika Scott, and Erwin & Twiler Portis set off a deep-sea earthquake and the tsunami effect was born. The first wave of success, this wave of freedom, has hit land and now these couples along with Stormy Wellington and William & Denise Lee are enjoying a six figure income monthly. This is truly a special time in our company’s history.
I know firsthand the time and effort that they have put into the business and to see each of them now enjoying the financial rewards is just awesome. Three months ago I was excited because they were recruiting about 600 to 1,000 reps a week. Since that time, it has multiplied about five times that. We’ve had several weeks of 5,000 or more new IBO’s and there is no sign of these waves slowing down.
This wave of financial freedom is contagious. Many new affiliates are joining TLC with no prior business experience or MLM experience and are having success; in as little as three months many reps are earning $1,000 – $2,000 monthly on a part-time basis. This is a movement that is being promoted heavily amongst TLC’s elite IBO’s.
“We’re not trying to make millionaires or sell a dream that is unachievable for the masses. We are offering a business opportunity, a partnership with TLC that promotes health, wellness and additional income that can help burn debt.

Gregg and Lenika have also recently enjoyed a blessing in their lives; they just purchased a home and paid for it in cash. “I was almost in tears when I called Kenny the other day and told him that Lenika and I found a beautiful home, not a million-dollar mansion, but a home that will suit Lenika and I and our beautiful daughters very well and we paid for it in cash.
I could not have been able to accomplish this if it wasn’t for Kenny and Chante introducing us to Total Life Changes just 16 months ago. You can’t put a price on the freedom that this business has graced us with. In the past several months, TLC affiliates have been hosting opportunity meetings in cities across the United States. Hotel conference rooms and large ballrooms are being filled by hundreds of people listening enthusiastically to this recent growth, testimonies of weight loss, improved skin an additional income as a means to burn debt. Social media channels are blustering with personal weight-loss testimonies and 20 & 30-day health and wellness challenges.
“All of this recent growth has been fantastic. Witnessing the growth though social media and attending many of these events has been an incredible experience for me. But it has also provided us with many challenges. We have been working feverishly to communicate these challenges to our sales force.
We have doubled and tripled our customer support team only to find out that it is still not large enough to handle this growth. Our phone support technicians have determined that there are 750 calls placed every five minutes, that’s 9,000 calls an hour. Our recent purchase of customer support software is configured and we have agents fielding support tickets daily.
The data that we’ve been reviewing is very encouraging as customers and reps are getting timely feedback and resolved tickets. Soon this software will be available in our back office with a knowledge base and FAQ section that will allow users to resolve many inquires on their own.  We’ve secured new manufactures and distributors for our flagship product, Iaso™ Tea to fulfill back orders. We’ve increased production of our line of skin care, which is also seeing a surge in sales.
There is still a lot of work to be done to support this growth. Our headquarters in Michigan anticipates moving to a new facility in July 2015. This new facility will allow for many more customer service agents and much needed office space. I think it is important for our customers and field reps to understand that we have an all-hands-on-deck mentality right now to support our company’s growth and that we are doing everything that we can to support the growth of their personal business, explains Chief Operating Officer John Licari.
Vice President of North American Sales, Kenny Lloyd, has been a tremendous asset in terms of communicating this growth to the sales force. Several calls are hosted weekly by Kenny and many other leaders that are National rank and above to discuss these challenges and communicate the current state of affairs.
“Everything is coming together quite well. I expressed to Jack Fallon several months ago that we need to prepare for this growth and that is exactly what he did. He secured additional manufactures, purchased customer support software to offset the influx of phone calls and was very open and honest with regards to the time it may take to have everything working seamlessly. Production times have increased and orders are now being filled at twice the previous capacity.
Despite many of these anticipated growing pains, we are still building at an incredible pace. This first wave of six-figure earners is huge for TLC. We know that we are not even on the map of many top network marketers and that’s ok. We want to be sure that we grow the right way. And what that means is providing timely support and training in order to build leaders within the teams we already have in place.

That’s just incredible to me. So we are going to be sure that we accept this growth and plan accordingly to maintain the integrity of Jack Fallon’s vision,” stated Kenny Lloyd.

WiBOO – Brazilian Social Network Launches With A MLM Program

WiBOO is a web-based service intended to unite social network with e-commerce, focused on micro and small businesses, and distributed as Multilevel Marketing. The platform is the newest acquisition of IGC (Intelligence Group Consulting) based in Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil.
The idea of creating WiBOO was based on a market research, commissioned by IGC, which showed that 99% of the entrepreneurs in Brazil are micro and small business owners. However, 52% of them are not using digital marketing to expand their business due to lack of knowledge or very high advertising prices.
By creating a virtual marketplace combined with intuitive social network, WiBOO hopes to attract the attention of the major part of those unattended otherwise businesses. The business owners will be able to purchase very affordable “virtual vitrines” and offer promotions and discounts to existing and new customers.
The WiBOO platform will attend the following types of users/customers:
  • Users of the social network, which will be able to interact in a similar to Facebook manner, however in a cleaner and much more intuitive way. The registration is free of charge and users can earn Social Coins (virtual currency) based on their activities and engagement in the network. The coins could be used to purchase services and products in the E-commerce section of the website.
  • Micro and small business owners, which will be able to buy advertisement space within the E-commerce section to expand their business and grow their customers’ base through promotions and discounts receiving WiBOO Coins (virtual currency) as part of payment.
  • Distributors, which will be rewarded through a Multilevel Marketing compensation plan, who will offer the advertisement packages to small and medium business owners, and other distributors.
The platform is both web and mobile friendly, which will make the interaction and e-commerce activities extremely easy even for users with slow internet access.
At the time of its pre-launch in March 2015, WiBOO has attracted serious media attention in Brazil as well as attention from local e-commerce associations, small business development banks and institutions – private and governmental. WiBOO is also already member of ABRANET (The Brazilian Association of Internet) and ABComm (The Brazilian Association of E-commerce).

WiBOO is online since March 21, 2015, accessible first in Portuguese and in the following months will release its English interface for users worldwide. The platform will be available in additional languages until the end of 2015.
